Welcome to Grand Highlands at Bearwallow Mountain

“Blue Ridge Mountain Bliss”

The Land

The story of Grand Highlands begins with the land itself, where natural forces have been at work over a billion years to create this remarkably biodiverse setting of exquisite grandeur. Situated nearly 4,000 feet above sea level, it has been described as an “open meadow placed upon a mountaintop,” and affords some of the most spectacular views in Eastern America. It’s surrounded by mountain ridges & peaks, rocky cliffs, richly forested slopes & coves, and cool, clear streams & waterfalls. The nutrient-rich soil and unique climate have given rise to numerous rare species of plants and animals that make their home here. And thanks to the laudable efforts by conservation organizations working with generous landowners, large tracts of land have been conserved to protect these wonders, and an extensive network of public hiking trails has been created to allow nature lovers to get close to it all.

Many say living in Grand Highlands feels like living in a National Park—like they’re a hundred miles away from the nearest city, but it’s actually located within a 20-35 minute drive to some of the most popular destinations in the country, including Asheville, Hendersonville, Chimney Rock/Lake Lure, and the Blue Ridge Parkway. The region’s many cultural, culinary, music, and outdoor adventure “must experience” spots have garnered numerous #1 and 5-star accolades in the national media. Its magnificent scenery has been featured in blockbuster movies like The Hunger Games, Last of the Mohicans, and Dirty Dancing (the last two filmed just a few miles from here).

The Community & Architecture

Honoring the beauty and integrity of this special place is paramount to the developers and residents of Grand Highlands, and we consider caring for it a privilege. Several sprawling rolling meadows and verdant woodland areas have been designated as common areas. All utilities are underground, and homes are designed to enhance the aesthetic appeal of the meadows and woodlands—artfully integrated into homesites to complement the land’s natural value. Our Architectural Review Board supports home plans inspired by—but not limited to—the Arts and Crafts, Mountain, European Country and French Country styles of architecture to assure an overall design consistency in the community.

The People

And then there are our residents; the Grand Highlanders... an amiable group of engaging, down-to-earth folks who revere the mountain’s intrinsic beauty and cherish luxury living in the absence of pretense. They relish the company of friends and neighbors either in their homes or gathered together at one of the incredible amenities within the community, such as the clubhouse with its stunning Summit Pub Room and extensive verandas on which to take-in the breathtaking panoramic mountain views.

There is indeed a special energy on Bearwallow Mountain and within the Grand Highlands community that transcends description. It touches your soul. You feel it in your heart. We invite you to spend some time browsing these pages and viewing the photo & video galleries to get a better sense of what this place is about.
